Removed this defective Fram TG10060 that was ran for 6504 miles on a 2016 Ram 1500 5.7L

Upon cutting open some filter media was missing allowing unfiltered oil through four holes and tube seam it looks like. There were some flakes/specs in the bottom of the can so it did not bypass everything it appears. Oil was a mix of full synthetic 5w20 Havoline & Mobil 1.

It was the last of my older stash of TG's, all of the previous were fine when cut open. I reached out with photos to Fram via email to see what their response will be. Never had an issue like this one, another Fram TG10060 went back on but was newer/recently bought from Wally World along with a mix of 0w20 & 5w30 Total Quartz from my clearance stash.

Yes Sir, and a newer TG10060 recently bought a Wally World went on with Total Quartz oil. Hopefully this one is good.

Apparently I’m having a hell of a day with purchased products, was raking up a little gravel that went on the lawn from snow plowing and the wooden rake handle snapped on me. Cracking open beer now hopefully this works out better😂.

The FRAM EG and TG are just the worst. The cans are made of thin metal. They can rust to the point of leaking within a year in the rust belt. They're pretty skimpy with the amount of filter media, and they have the highest restriction of any filter I've seen tested. Then there's the quality control issues.

If the goal is to save money, it makes more sense to pay twice as much for a quality filter with a better holding capacity and use it for two OCIs.

I don’t know how some people do it; they must scratch thru the paint when installing or something. I live in the rust belt where the streets departments think we need a little snow with our road salt, and I’ve never even had surface rust on the orange cans I’ve installed (the only orange cans I’ve ever used were the HM orange cans, and that was before I knew about the OG XG), let alone one rusting thru in just a year. Not saying it’s impossible, just more rare than you made it sound.

And we know the orange can design itself isn’t terrible; the media actually performs at least as good as the price point… since the orange can guts are nearly identical to the Subaru OEM, bypass notwithstanding, and there are plenty of people who only have their cars dealer serviced and see well over 200k with these along for the ride.

Things are not looking good for FRAM these days, I think I will be switching back to AC Delco which yes it is owned by the same company but they are different factories and you can easily see if it is intact due to the E-Core design.
