I cant believe you guys who are saying to sell the car. How unethical is that. Sticking someone else with a potential piece of s--- because that guy was an idiot. Geeezzzz!!!

I agree. That's pretty freakin' sorry. Makes me think of when I read stuff on here like "Oh, just use that noadditive-zerodetergent-fueldiluteslikeasonofagun-noname oil if you're getting rid of the car in a year or two."

I bet we'd all just LOVE to be on the bad end of those deals.

now with the engine, frequent oci is a must. heck, just run the engine with new dino for 30 minutes, then change the oil and filter. repeat and watch the sludge keep coming out. use a 20wt too

I agree, although I think any weight would do. I'd change the oil with some cheap Autozone oil or something else you can get for ~$1/qt. Drive it for a half-hourish and drain it. Run the next change for a couple of days and do the same thing. I'd do this a couple of times before I bothered with Auto-RX.

I have a friend who has a '99 Ford Escort who never change the oil.

Well, I've heard that synthetics can be used for twice as long as conventional oils. This means that if he had used Mobil 1 or Amsoil he could have easily have gone 100K between changes.

This sounds like he was adding new oil pretty regularly. Tell him to change the filter with an Amsoil EaO every summer and buy him a case of Amsoil to put in for the next 50k!

The guy was just running an extended drain interval; what's wrong with that?

He's getting the maximum value out of his oil and at the same time, saving the environment; isn't that what you extended drain guys are after?

50K / 3K OCI's = 18 oil changes. 18 x $25 = $450.

Look at how much money he saved!!! We should all learn from this guy by stretching our OCI's this long!

Look at how much he's helping the environment by all that oil he's never used!!

We had a car in the dealership today that went 14K miles and had not been changed at all. The drain plug was untouched and the original filter (unavailable in this country) was still there. It was however about 2 quarts overfilled so someone has been adding oil. Well it had so much it pumped a bunch into the intake and it smoked something FIERCE!!! Like a really good Seafoam that did not quite.

Well no visible sludge in the valvetrain area but the tip of the visible cam lobes were scored. Niece gouges in them. That one will not last.

What type of car was it?

Which thread was that?!? I must've missed that one.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I have been thinking about a way of breaking the news to him. If I had the time (and not recovering from an injury) I would take on the project just to see what's inside and post pics for everyone to see.

I'll keep everyone updated.
