Anyone know what the oil requirements for the new 2006 GLI might be? It has the new 2.0T. I should have the car in about a week or two and was wanting to go ahead and start stocking up.
ELF offers VW 504/507 approved "low SAP" oil in the U.S. now. As far as I know, they are the only one. You might want to try Elf Solaris LLX 5w-30 It is very expensive though. By the way, the product data sheet indicates that TBN is only 5.8.quote:

Easy, VW 504/507 oil. Seriously, find out what the dealer uses and use the same thing at 1/2 the recommended OCI. Default would be Mobil 1 0w-40.
Yeah I think it's because the automakers oil requirements are kind of low here in the states. They don't want your car to last forever so you will come back and buy another in a few years.quote:

One thing for sure, oil brand varieties in the U.S sucks big time, can you use anything else beside Mobil1? Mobil1 this Mobil1 that, boring...
I live in a third world country and one oil specialist store stocks every conceivable brands, Elf Solaris? Just walk in the store, get a galloon and done with it, no opening the web, no ordering online and waiting at home for the UPS guy that always shows up while you are at work.
Correction..."Group IV synthetic".quote:
Don't use anything other than synthetic in a turbo engine. Especially a VW engine.
VW 504 supersedes and replaces VW 502, 503.01, 505.01, and 501.01.quote:
Mobil 1 0w-40 is 502.00/505.00,503.01 approved, but doesn't claim to be 504/507 approved. Am I missing something here?
I currently use Mobil 1 0W-40 in my 2001 1.8T. Would there be any benefit to changing to a 504/507 oil? I concur with the other posts bemoaning the lack of availability of world class oils in the U.S., which is why I generally just stick with Mobil 1, which I can buy at my local Kragen's, sometimes on sale at $4/qt.quote:

The 2.0T VW and Audi motors should be able to use any (not VW 501.01) of the above oils without problems. I would opt for a VW 502 oil.

The same dealers who put VW-branded Castrol dino in 1.8Ts for years?quote:
