Normally I'm like many of you and I change oil on new cars early (usually between 500 and 1000 miles). I decided to wait on my Honda Ridgeline until the OCI hit 20% or one year elapsed. I have several vehicles so I split the mileage across them and sometimes it takes me a while to rack up miles on a specific ride.
Purchased 08/30/2005, 3 miles
First oil change 06-02-2006, 5166 miles
Oil life indicator changed at 20% at almost exactly 5K miles
Makeup oil added 16 ounces of Motorcraft 5w20 at 4K miles.
I did take a sample of the used oil. I'm thinking of sending off to Blackstone for analysis.
For this oil change (4.5 quart sump with filter) I went with 4 quarts and 12 ounces of Motorcraft w20, 4 oz of Lube Control and 5 oz of Fuel Power with a fillup of Shell 87 octane. I used an OEM Honda Filtec filter.
I should probably send the oil to Blackstone. I'm planning on using the OCI and changing when it hits 15 to 20% (for some margin).
