    New PUROLATOR Premium oil filter

He closes with "I'll continue to bring you more in the future". IMHO this will not be necessary.

Would you use this filter? Fram TG11665

Hi BMOC91, I believe what is most important is if all the pleat ends are glued to seal them off. If they are you're good to go!

Known best filter for subie FA engines?

Good Morning SubieRubyRoo, Another well written comment by you on the history of this topic on Bitog, the reality of the volume of non oem filters used on Subarus and how good driving habits win the day for filtration. Most appreciated, thank you.

    Interesting RockAuto filter problem

Hi Everyone, Back in February in post #41 of this thread I reported changes to the Fram Extra Guard. Recently while in my local WalMart I checked out the Extra Guards and they are back with their original silicone antidrainback valve and louvered metal core!

    NAPA GOLD.....Maybe not....

Good Morning Hrv, Thank you for sharing the video. I found it interesting that the guy spends 8 minutes 11 seconds trying to site differences and does not know the most important and only criteria to compare; filtering efficiency based on ISO 4548-12 and rated mileage life. But citing data...

    Virgin MGL57356 cut open

Good Morning GMBoy, I really appreciated your feedback, thank you. End caps are an interesting feature of the filter. I recently watched the 2011 Fram video on the engineering and testing of oil filters and I learned the end caps provide no structural integrity; that they only exist to seal off...

    Virgin MGL57356 cut open

Good Morning GMBoy, I'm curious about your preference of the MicroGard over the Fram Extra Guard. The Fram has better performance specs (95% @20 w/10K life) with a lower price. Not challenging you, just curious about your experience/perception of the product. Thank you!

Oil Filter Purchases for the Forester and Corolla

Good Morning ZeeOSix, You may be right. My Walmart burns through the PH7317s very quickly and I'll be able to verify!

Oil Filter Purchases for the Forester and Corolla

Good Morning ARCOGraphite, This UOA from 2019 has to be one of the best I've ever seen. I look at three items; Iron, Silicon and did the oil stay at its viscosity rating. You hit the trifecta, great numbers on all three. A sign of both excellent maintenance and driving habits by you.

Oil Filter Purchases for the Forester and Corolla

Good Morning HowAboutThis, I was grocery shopping in my Walmart this morning and headed over to the filter area to take a picture of the Fram Extra Guard with the nitrile anti drain back and nylon core I had mentioned in my post to you. The PH7317s had just been restocked so the shelf was full...

Oil Filter Purchases for the Forester and Corolla

Yes the website says that but because it has not been updated. The Extra Guards are now shipping with both nitrile anti drain back valves and the metal center core has been converted to a nylon cage. Depending how fast your local stores turn the inventory, they may have the previous version in...

How often are filters in bypass mode?

Good Morning ZZman, In the Fram YouTube video "Filtration and Engineering Testing - 2011 FRAM Challenge Video 2", Gary Bilski-Fram Filtration Engineer stated the valve can open 25,000 to 30,000 times in the life of a vehicle and that the Fram by-pass valves are engineered for 1,000,000 cycles.

Oil Filter Purchases for the Forester and Corolla

Good Morning HowAboutThis, Your driving a lot of good highway miles which is great for your vehicles! I read a VOA on the Kirkland oil and it is excellent oil having a total of 3,859 PPM of anti-wear and detergent/dispersant additives in the 5W20 . . . a great value. I believe the Forester has...

    No more Super Tech MP?

Good Morning Eljefino, It's interesting when I'm in the filter aisle at WalMart I do find younger people reading the boxes on the lower priced filters for making a selection. I also find the slots for the Supertech ST6607s and Fram PH7317s seem to sell the fastest! Those two filters are in that...

    No more Super Tech MP?

That is so true about the shelf space in retail. What I've observed so far with the MPs gone at my Walmart is they've not yet been replaced with another product. Instead they've got all the filters arranged nicely on shelves in ascending price order; STs on the bottom shelf, then Extra Guards...

    No more Super Tech MP?

My theory is people ended up reaching for a Fram Extra Guard (95% @20 micron 10K life) because its price of $4.12 was only slightly higher than the ST filter (99% @30 micron 10K life) at $3.84 and much lower than the MP at $5.97 (99% @30 20K life). Also the ST and Extra Guards are 10K filters...
