switching to Syn in 1985 22r for long trip?

Thanks for the replies. I am sure I will stop in OKC. Been this route 6 times but in much newer vehicles. I am just looking for advice from some people with experience in doing this. Truck is great and will probably be fine, just looking for an edge. The worst part of the trip will be no A/C...

switching to Syn in 1985 22r for long trip?

I am driving from west Tn. to SW Colorado in late July in my '85 4X4 Toy. pickup. I40 90% of the way and it will be hot, 12 hour days on the road. I will be trail riding in Telluride/Silverton area. My truck has been extremely well maintained by the original owner and myself. Always had...

New '13 GT Mustang, Also, any true synthetics left

Thanks for all the replies. I hate being a fence setter, but am finding it always difficult going conventional or synthetic. Good arguments either way. I have plenty of time to decide on this one. Based on my history of 3K changes (mostly unnecessary I know) I will probably go conventional...

New '13 GT Mustang, Also, any true synthetics left

From the police. My wife does not care, she knows I have to fix what I break, deal with the dealer or pay my own ticket. You know, its one of those things, her car but I negotiate, I buy, I fix, I maintain, I think I can get her to wash it regularly though. My son is a good and fast driver, been...

New '13 GT Mustang, Also, any true synthetics left

No track option. Regular GT. But it does have the computer where you can set the 1/4 mile, zero to 60 etc. My 22 year old son who the 59 belongs to would love that option, but I am OK with this I guess. I just want my wife to keep this on the road. She took an '03 S2000 into a corn field a...

New '13 GT Mustang, Also, any true synthetics left

Well, I read it on the internet and we all know it's got to be true, right. But i do come here for a little clarity. I promise it will be driven hard from time to time. It won't be red lined but it will be driven with enthusiasm and a large smile regularly, at least when she lets me. There is...

New '13 GT Mustang, Also, any true synthetics left

Thanks, the thing is impressive. 420 HP. It will set you back in your seat. Wife's last new car. Convertible, leather. She had cancer 8 years ago so I traded off a '95 cummins then on a very low mileage '03 GT and ever since we got rid of that she has wanted another. 100K bumper to bumper...

New '13 GT Mustang, Also, any true synthetics left

We just bought a new 2013 GT Mustang, stick, would you guys stay with Motorcraft or change? Also thinking of synthetics and read somewhere(can't remember where), that there is only a few "true" synthetics left. I know two questions, but would you stay with Motorcraft or go synthetic? Wife will...

    New to me Tahoe 5.3l

I am not sure of my philosophy. I am trying to figure it out. So, would my choices be something like PYB and Wix for 5K or so, or a synthetic and Wix for 10K or so. And yes I am trying to get over the 3K oil change syndrome. We once had an 86 Accord that I changed the oil over 50 times in about...

    New to me Tahoe 5.3l

Wow, 4 responses in 10 minutes. I love this site. Well, other than the price, which I am OK with, what technically speaking makes your suggestions? I am trying to learn all this massive amount of info on here. The why's and what for's. On one hand I have heard in my 50 years that "oil is oil"...

    New to me Tahoe 5.3l

I just bought a 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71, 115000 miles, well cared for. I have no oil history. I will pull a 12 foot trailer with lawn equipment appx 3500lbs 3-4 days a week. Also daily driver we will take it on some lengthy (2-3K mile) road trips. I do not abuse and take very good care of my...

New rebuild. Need oil suggestions please.

Thanks for responding. I know I can search for this info but while we are here, what oils have more zinc? The place I bought the cam is called "ENGNBLDR.COM". My son has bought one for his 87 and I bought the complete timing set there. Forgive me I don't know how to put up a link. These are good...

New rebuild. Need oil suggestions please.

I have just rebuilt a 1989 Toyota 22r engine . I would love to have some suggestions on what oil you guys would run. Truck is mainly a commuter, but I did put a little 268 cam in it for a little more HP. No excessive RPMs though. Just a quick little truck when you need it. I am 49 and have used...

    Older wore out truck.

Thanks, I live in hot weather, and drive it 50 to 75 miles a day, over half highway. I never leave home without oil. The dang thing starts and runs like it was built yesterday, just wearing out a little.
