More power with less stress and heat on both components, while smoothing out the powerband.

Turbo has lag when you first step on the gas, but doesn't use energy from the engine. Supercharger makes power as soon as you step on the gas, but being driven by a belt, draws engine power. Guess Volvo optimized the benefits of both while minimizing the drawbacks in the design.

IIRC, the SC is always on whenever the engine is running - even at idle.
The Turbo only kicks in when the engine is at higher RPM's/WOT. Thereby creating additional stress and pressure on the engine when driven "spiritedly".

That's how I understand it too. The turbo only comes in at higher RPMs. I will tell you what, you'd never know that a 2.0L in-line 4 cylinder is powering that 4,500lb SUV. That engine, 8 speed tranny and AWD is an amazing combo!

Had an S60 T6 in late October (same engine) for a week while visiting SoCal/Arizona area.
Also had a similar AWD setup.

Despite being labeled as a "premium" car, there was a noticeable amount of NVH that was very disconcerting -despite running exclusively on prem fuel).
As a result, that experience had me hoping Volvo gets a move on with full electrification. Their ubiquitous 4 cyl "one size fits all" attitude will surely be their demise as other luxury vehicles surpass them.
