How long did the OE AGM battery last?

Well they had some pretty sharp engineers design that battery didn't they. It was designed right down to the Nates what do you call it!

Unsure how hot it is where you are in Calif. But it seems that East Penn/Deka is the best of the lot of available battery manufacturers.

Maybe the vehicles would be better with a plain flooded cell battery than AGM?

AGM is more picky on how its charged than flooded cell. Maybe the charging systems in these cars are not a good match for AGM.

OE was a flooded battery. I put an exide orbital in it that lasted 90 months. It died with no warning at all! Next was an Optima that was getting weak @84 months old, The Deka replaced the Optima.

"Engineered to a price point"

Died 1 month after the free warranty = You get to buy another battery from them and give them money!

Ahh... Does the automaker say you can use AGM? IIRC the charge profile of AGM differs from flooded whereas an AGM will die a quick death from overcharging..

Both the orbital and the Optima were AGM batteries.

I’ve had good luck with Deka flooded batteries, but have no experience with the AGM version.

Apple valley. It can get hot. But the last 2 AGM batteries lasted 7+ years.

It's too late to help OP but for this reason I bought a battery analyzer and check batteries as they are nearing the end of free-replacement warranty period.

Deka makes great batteries.

We use their AGM batteries for our trolling motors on our fishing boats. Nothing compares to their reserve, and they last through way more charges (with a specific charging profile designed for big AGM batteries) than any other AGM we've used.

I'll always be a HUGE East Penn fan. They have NEVER let me down.

It's quite possible that your alternator is starting to fail as well......

RIght now I have 3 brands of batteries in 4 vehicles. Costco "Interstate" (Venza and Corolla), Wallmart EverStart Maxx (Elantra), Duracell (Tundra). The Duracell is an East Penn rated at 840 CCA but when I put it on the battery analyzer it measure 1050 CCA. That is quite a difference in power reserve; I think the Duracell batteries are rated conservatively. The EverStart Maxx from 3/2016 had a prorated warranty: 3 years free replacement and 84 months prorated. But maybe the new ones got rid of the prorated, most battery brands keep cutting down the warranty.

Agreed 100% and not only that, but it also depends how far down it has been let go and was it ever fully recharged. These batteries need smart chargers like CTek
