Is it really M1 ESP X1 0W30? #5192773 08/21/19 08:33 AM

I just picked up a case of this what I think is this oil but I see no "X1" anywhere on the box or bottle and there is no certifications listed (except for ACEA C3). (The M1 ESP X1 0W30 has a bevy of certifications shown in the online TDS eg 504/507).

(I believe there was a previous ESP 0W30 formulation but this box shows a date of 2018. I wouldn't think there would be an M1 ESP 0W30 AND an M1 ESP X1 0W30 simultaneously).

Do I have the X1 version?

I remember seeing that X1 designation some time ago (meaning years) for a flavor of M1 0W30 and being confused by it.
I really can only guess at this point, but I'd have to think that X1 is an older formulation and this 0W30 is newer (like how 5W30 ESP Formula has seemingly been replaced with just plain 5W30 ESP).

That must be a newer lot. My labeling verbiage states 2014, yours 2018. Mine is marked ESP x1 on the front label.

Well this is confusing

If you click on the tabs of the different viscosities at the bottom of this page:

https://mobiloil.com/en/motor-oils/mobil-1/mobil-1-esp

0W20 is ESP X2
0W30 is just ESP
0W40 is ESP Formula
5W30 is just ESP

Bizarre

And yet I thought that the X1 was the newer formulation of the ESP 0W30 product ???

And so for my case, with only C3 being shown on the bottle, is it this:

https://www.mobil.com/English-US/Passenger-Vehicle-Lube/pds/NAXXMobil-1-ESP-X1-0W30

OR this:

https://www.mobil.com/English-US/Passenger-Vehicle-Lube/pds/NAXXMobil-1-ESP-0W30

(I guess whatever; for in terms of manufacturer certification both have almost the same official approvals).

I think it must be the second one. Only difference in approvals is the second one has Porsche C30.

It's very surprising to me that the bottle shown in the OP is a quart and not a liter!!

They (used to) run simultaneously.

https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevo...w&mark=229.52&suchbegriff=229.52

Until the older trade name certification expires (5 years) they will both remain on the resp. approval list(even if the older one is already unavailable on the market).

My bottle from 2014 is marked:

ACEA C2, C3
MB-Approval 229.52
MB-Approval 229.51
MB Approval 229.31

Made in the USA from domestic and/or imported components.

Good point...I just assumed that something with lots of Euro approvals would be in liters.

If they both have the spec you need, does it really matter?

I got some good information from Exxon Mobil:

And I quote:

Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 is the replacement product for Mobil 1 ESP X1 0W-30. Please find attached the official Imperial oil communication regarding this change.

The bottle does not have the specifications listed on it but the product is certified for all the listed applications on the previously provided link.
