Yes I'm certain it did not need to be done, and that some may have chosen a different oil, or no additive.
This is one of the easiest changes I've ever done. I read many comments about the cartridge and cap design, and problems with them.
I see none of it. Removed small cap, push the drain tap in the bottom of the big cap, unscrew big cap holding filter, replace cartridge, re-assemble.

Out Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 AC Delco PF46 filter - used for 1 yr 5 months 3,942 miles
In Shell Rotella Gas Truck 5w30 AC Delco PF46 filter

Honestly didn't really need to change the oil just got tired of looking at the OLM which was dropping like crazy and down to 22% remaining, it was a good day to change oil and I wanted to give the Shell RGT a try. I have been using PP 5w30 in this truck for awhile now and would definitely go back to it which has served me well. I concur with everyone else that says the RGT is quieter and makes it run smoother, it also doesn't have that typical Rotella smell either. The old oil was seriously black which really surprised me for only having about 4k miles on it.

I let the dealership do one oil change because it was free. I've hated how the car responded to it, so took it out early and put the good stuff back in at a human torque.

When I worked in an Express lube I did lots of Toyota cartridge filters. They were only a pain when the previous person over tightened them.

If I bought a new vehicle ever I'd drain the factory fill as early as you did but probably no additive.

Eager to monitor how the car behaves and feels about moving from the Idemitsu to M1 AFE...

OUT: 5 qts. of Motorcraft 5W-20 Syn-blend Oil and Motorcraft FL820 oil filter

First oil change on it since 2016. crzy Figured I'd go the "thickie" route, and give it a little extra for the warm Summer months. On the 12 mile drive back home, it drove smooth & quiet. Even had a little extra "oomph" to it.
