I had a Ford truck with a 360 motor and it used a quart every 2k till I switched to GTX. Then it didn't use any between changes. That may have been what the previous owner used. My well pump quit though and my dog got hit by a car.

Don't waste your time on a slipshod repair.

Not sure where you got those numbers for Castrol calcium, but they’re way off. It’s around 2,400ppm.

It can’t be right. Every single A3/B4 I have ever seen has calcium well north of 2,000ppm. There’s plenty of recent Castrol 0W-40 UOAs to look at. They will all have high calcium.

FYI, Castrol 0W-40 VOA (from Blackstone) that SLO_Town did in 2014 showed Calcium level of 1944 ppm.

The Russian test showed 2026:

Not well north of 2,000, but not as low as what the OP saw either.

Almost exclusively used PP on my toyo and with 190k no leaks no nothing.
Used other synthetics and not had that success, in fact will switch to PP 5W30 for my MB starting next oil change
