Wondering if anyone has an idea on this before I give it a shot.

My parents have an old Jeep Liberty key fob they kept after a crash ended the Jeep’s run about 10 years ago. My dad has a similar era Dodge truck that he’d like to have another key fob for.

Before I waste time trying something that may be destined to fail before I ever start, is there any chance I can train the Jeep fob to operate the truck’s lock?

Thanks a lot.

Chrysler has a couple different types of Key Fobs. Some will work with other vehicles and some will not. Do they look similar?
Also do you have access to a professional grade scan tool to do the programming?

I think a lot of locksmiths can do this for a minimal charge. It sure can't hurt to call one and find out. They could at least tell you if it's feasible with what you have.

Thanks, guys.

I ended up giving it a shot. It worked. The process is laid out in the manual and the Jeep fobs, which were the same shape as the Dodge originals, were receptive.

I’ll get him set up with some new batteries and Pops should be all set.

If they have the same FCC ID, you can usually do this.

I did the same using the fobs from my Pontiac Vibe that was totaled on a different Toyota....
