Which oil for Turbo DI

Using a d1G2/SN Plus oil in a TGDI engine is a good idea, but it won’t make much of an LSPI difference until engine programming is adjusted to assume it is in the crankcase.

For non-GM makes at least, engines exit the production line assuming the engine will be using a traditional, non LSPI-preventing oil and will be programmed to enrich mixtures under any throttle/rpm combination that conceivably could create LSPI. Merely putting in a d1G2/SN Plus oil won’t change this.

Once reformulated oils are dominant or required, programming can be changed and lower fuel dilution and better fuel economy will likely result. A reasonable question is what OEMs will do for owners of legacy TGDI platforms when this time comes.

^^^If you own a TDGI vehicle in which the engine is supported by a tuning company/software/hand held device (Cobb, SCT, EFI Live, HP Tuners, Livernois, Hondata, etc.), and get a custom tune (or even a 'canned-off the shelf' tune) from them, most of the time they actually do adjust the fuel trims downward to lean it out a bit, to get a little more power out of it as a matter of course.
So that is one way to achieve the above before the dealers do any TSBs/call backs for a re-flash.

But of course technically, you just threw your power train warranty out the window with the above, as the Ford ECMs (and I'm sure other manufacturers as well) have a flash counter which tattle-tells the times the ECM was flashed/tuned, and if the dealer checks this, as they are supposed to for any engine related warranty work, and the count is too high over any re-flashes they may have done themselves as updates, you're ****** (it also is unaffected by and separate from any battery/power disconnects, so that excuse is gone as well).

So proceed down this path at your own risk.

Bought some Castrol Edge 0w-20 for this oil change this weekend. They have a promotion for a free hat so already sent that in. Will take 2 samples and send one to blackstone and to another for comparison.

5w30 Pennzoil Platinum is what's in my 2017 Buick Regal GS 2.0T and a NAPA Platinum filter, gets the job done, no need for anything more.
