a few of my tools have developed sticky rubber from non use. how do i remove the stickyness with out damage? i tried armorall and it had no effect

Any petroleum solvent should work.

I had a pair of good quality sunglasses (Ray-Ban brand) which had a skid resistant "rubber coating" I thought was silicone based.
They "sweat a goo" over time. Many cleaners didn't touch it.
Common rubbing alcohol cleaned the sticky stuff off perfectly.
