obviously the opening side up, I already had (clean) oil in it.

I drained it out & let it dry but not sure if I should risk it, it's a $10 m1 filter, for sure if it was $4 one I'd just throw it out but this one is kinda questionable.

I was in a middle of an oil change & then something came up & I left & then it rained in meantime, don't judge me.

Depends on the type of filter and how it was left in the rain?

Did the water soak the filter element?

Need more information.

Have a spare quart of oil so you can fill and dump again in small bites? … water is heavier so letting it sit would not likely do much … if a spoonful is left it should cook out if you take a long drive …

For a measly $10 dollars (comparatively) it is not worth it. Toss it and get another one.

To add to my no vote, the water that soaked the media may have made it susceptible to tearing etc.

I wouldn't use it personally. I also wouldn't pay $10 for an oil filter anymore, but that's a whole other story. As to the water compromising the media, I doubt that's an issue as it spends it's life having hot oil pushed through it. I don't think a tablespoon of water would cause any harm.

The wet media will become weakened, going up against all that oil pressure.
Throw it away and let it be a lesson-learned.

Come on people, read the post.

The filter was full of oil, so the media did not get water directly on it.

The question I would as the OP is if you took a new filter, prefilled it with oil, then took a cup of water and slowly poured it into the filter on top of the oil, would you use it then?

It is $10 (+ the oil in the filter), chalk it up as lesson learned.
Also, as said, go get a Fram Ultra. Less expensive and better filter IMO.
