I have a non transmission application that specs type A. I have never seen or heard of type a. Does anyone know what it has been replaced by?

This is for a hydraulic control valve from the late 80s early 90s.

It can also take MIL-H-5606A spec fluid.

In GM applications (early Powerglides for example), Dexron spec fluid is the replacement and works fine.

I would find a Dexron III fluid, even though that isn't the current Dexron spec.

Type-A is what they used before the original Dexron, very very obsolete.

You can probably get Type-A at one of those discount stores in the hood (PQIA has profiled some of them). Amazon also has Accel Type-A

But you're much better off with any Dexron III type ATF. Even Walmart brand ST will work fine in your application smile

I guess I could even put dex 6 in it then. The pump runs constantly on this.

OK, so does the thing have clutches? If not, just use hydraulic fluid ...

Tractor hydraulic fluids claim to meet type a
115 Simplex Torque Converter Fluid
For use in automatic and heavy-duty transmission where automatic transmission fluid type A is required ,this is a copy and paste for example.

Napa sells "Type FA" fluid, which is supposedly for Type F and Type A applications.

No clutches. Just pumps and amplifiers running a cylinder.

I do t know why Fisher speced transmission fluid but their products are built proof for the most part.
