PH means Extra Guard entry level cellulose oil filter. The acronym of PH is different than the other designations - not sure what it means.

b/c they didn't want to have to say FU when discussing the product line.

Right?

Only the spin-on canisters are PH.

The cartridges are CH.

What in the world is PH?

What? You guys throwing softballs now? This one is easy. The PH designations go back to ww2 era. In fact, PHXX is the most widely used oil filter numbering system in the world copied by many other filter makers. It pre-dates the "Guards" by a very long time and was so entrenched that even our marketing group wouldnt change it.

Its just a letter designation. Jeep has done it.

CJ (civilian Jeep)
YJ
DJ (Distribution Jeep?)
FSJ (Full sized Jeep)
TJ
MJ (Michael Jackson?)
XJ
ZJ
JK (just kidding Jeep?)
KJ
WJ (woman's Jeep?)
WK
WKII
XK
KK

I know I am missing some.. Not a huge newer Jeep guy these days. They dropped the ball IMO..
