My highlander is in need of some new tires, they still have plenty of tread but are dry rotted, they have cracks. Kumho seems to have a decent tire for a decent price, any body have experience with kumho? I'm just looking for an entry level tire for my highlander.

They make good tires - but depends on model ...

Look at Toyo CUV made in Japan very competive pricing ...
Got my from treaddepot.com with Free SH ( they can ship to installer in your area as well... )

I'm looking at the solus kr21. Toyo open country are the tires coming off.

The tires have cracks in between tread.

I use the highlander to commute to work, i really would hate to have a blow out.

My commute is 22 miles all high way, 22 miles one way so 44 miles daily.

I don't see a lot of kumho tires on SUVs, only on cheap econo cars... I'd seriously consider Cooper, BFGoodRich, UniRoyal, etc. You have many options and check out the local paper for sales.

The KR21 is low priced. Has a good ride. Handling is ok as is wet weather performance. From my experience you will not get 1/2 the advertised mileage on the tire, especially on a heavier vehicle. I had two sets each were shot between 35-40,000 miles on a smaller SUV. For a low priced tire that mileage maybe acceptable...but when it is rated at 85,000?

I had KR-21's on 2 different vehicles and they weren't bad.
They rode quietly and were good in the rain. The one issue I have with these tires is they are grossly optimistic calling these 85K tires....they are more like a 40 or 45K tire.
They should have something like a 400 or 440 UTOG Treadwear
rating, IMO.

Kumho is a huge tire company. They are a big OEM supplier, too. As a whole, they're a good tire company, but like anyone else, they have a whole range from [censored] to excellent.

I considered the KR21's for the Highlander and didn't buy due to snow traction. I think they would be better than any of the 3 OEM tires that would have come on your 2002, and a pretty good fit if you don't do snow/wet boat ramps/soft roading.

If the General Grabber is close in price that's probably a better tire for just a little more.

I went with Michelin LTX which is probably 50 more per tire, really only worth it for the snow traction and long treadlife, neither of which seem to be benefits to you.

I went to discount tire the other day and the sales man tried to throw the kumhos at me, he said that the kr21 is better than the good year integrity, I'm however still shopping around, i might just have to spend a little more to get a good tire, at discount tire the price for a set of kumho solus kr21 is $502.

I had the KR21s in a much smaller application 175/70/13s.

As others have said, treadwear is not going to be close to 85K - 40K @ 2/32nds is more reasonable.

Other than that they were round and rolled...not great in the snow IMO (though not sure that is all that important to you). I also had premature shoulder wear - not sure if that was car or tires.

It doesn't snow here in southern Texas ( San Antonio ) so I'm not to concerned about a tires performance in the snow, wet traction is important to me, we do get down pours here in Texas.

I'd agree with the salesman. 500 out the door sound pretty reasonable, though if you're not in a hurry you might wait until you can stack some rebates or Discount has a deal (like memorial day or 4th of july 100 off any four tires).

I've run 3 sets of Kumho Ecsta XS tires on my Camaro for track days over a few years, and have been very satisfied with the performance for the price.

I am on my third set of Kumho STX tires on my truck. I've been getting about 50,000 miles per set, and I like them better than the set of Yokohama GO52's that I tried. I went back to the Kumho's when the Yokohama's wore out.

I really wanted to like them. I gave them a chance twice, once back in the early 2000's on my BMW (turned out to be the noisiest, new tires I ever owned).

Then again on the GF's mom's 2011 Sonata. Both times, there were when bearing problems that "mysteriously" disappeared once I got different tires.

I'd skip 'em. Waste of money and there are better US made tires for equal price

My Kumho's have been excellent. Best for the money imo. Avoid Falken, those SUCK. I had them one time and they were the roughest, noisiest, and wore out really fast.

In my experience with them so far they are wearing great but are a little noisy. I have them on a Ford Escort though and those cars are very easy on tires.
