Motorcraft Mercon SP alternatives?

I have been doing some research on this intresting tranny fluid.
I finally found out what SP stands for "Shudder Proof" for those who didn't already know.

I've looked at the backs of all possible tranny fluids INCLUDING the new MaxLife Dex/Merc. I have read on here and other places that MaxLife can be used where Mercon SP is required, but I have yet to pick up a bottle and read that myself.

The bottle of Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc I read today reads it is NOT RECOMMENDED where Mercon SP is required.
So, is my only choice to head off to the Ford stealership and pay who knows what for Motorcraft Mercon SP?

pretty much ya, o and remember to replace the toilet paper filter on the side of the case as well.

Amsoil Universal ATF is recommended for Mercon SP transmissions.
However, it does not have an official Ford approval.

Mercon SP at my local Ford stealership is about $5.30 qt. Its the only fluid recommended for the Torqshift tranny and I can't see myself putting anything else in.

I was hoping to find a cheaper alternative with a Ford approval.
Oh well.
