I took my 22 WRX in for the first complementary service. The OCI is now 6000. I had 3969 but it is six months old and the dealer wanted to service. The spec went to 0w20 this year from 5w30. I did an early oil change myself at 2500 using Mobil 1, 5w30. I was gratified that my dealer still uses 5w30 Subaru synthetic for turbo cars. I just do not like 0w20 for a turbo car. I hope nobody here is appalled that the dealer used the "wrong" oil. The service was done in about 30 minutes and included a tire rotation and some inspections. I didn't buy at this dealer but they seem delighted to do the service.

Subaru is chasing near-imaginary fuel economy gains by going from ILSAC 5w30 to 0W-20. You can keep using 5w30, especially in your climate. You could even run a good 0W-40 or 5W-40 like QS Euro 5W-40 in that engine. It wouldn't hurt anything and probably provide better wear protection, should you need to put the hammer down.

my sis gets her impreza sport dealer serviced + is always pleased BUT its quite $$$$$ IMO. subie oils are said to be good + using a 5 or even better 10-30 synthetic is a good thing IMO + even better you could prolly DIY it for less cost even using a REAL synthetic if you can match the spec for warranty purposes. my 2001 jetta 1.8T went 200 thou before trading using a REAL synthetic 10w30 in penna's climate. my new jetta got FREE oil changes when new BUT the dealer refused to put in my REAL synthetic of choice so as soon as i got home i dumped + saved whatever they used for my girlfriends malibu + filled with my choice REAL synthetic + later on after reported sludge issues i NEVER had VW specd synthetic but surely NOT a REAL Synthetic brand that was $$$$
Subaru Japan also specs 0W-20 for the 2.4 WRX but also allows 5w30 and thicker Euro 0W-30.
I'm running 0W-20 in the same engine because I like livin' on the edge.

The 5w30 is fine. But if Subaru is calling for 0W-20 I'm guessing the have a heck of an oil cooler on that thing....

Subaru Idemitsu 5w30 is good oil as is their 0w20. Last VOA I read the 5W30 API- SN had a lot of moly - near 200ppm - assuming its TNMo.
Now If I can get my wife to get her oil changed. She is almost 6 months and 4500 miles on the FF on a D.I engine in a '23 Crosstrek with manual trans, 2.0L NA.
I asked her if the engine was clattering when warm, she said she doesn't pay attention to those things, she just doesn't care.

Good choice of oil. I always used Euro 40s in my FI subies that see 8k + rpm.
I wouldn't really call a 22 wrx a high Rev engine though.
