WIX XP Filter?

"FRAM Group testing of average filter efficiency and dirt holding capacity using FRAM XG3387A, XG8A, and XG4967 and their leading economy filter model equivalents under ISO 4548-12 for particles > 20 microns."

That tells me the average efficiency of the three filters tested are 99% greater than 20 microns, but not the whole XG product line. Still impressive results.

Would or does Fram give out filter specifications for what ever filter I wanted specs for besides the filters they list? I know Baldwin/Hastings will email the specifications if requested.

If you look at the specs on the FRAM XG3387A, XG8A, and XG4967 you'll see that they are basing the efficiency spec on 3 different sized filters (small to large), which is a good thing. Other makers usually only test their most gigantic sized filter, which theory is helps make the efficiency test come out better.

Yes I noticed how they are getting the average. It might be considered nitpicking, but I like real numbers, but I reckon it is what it is.

The way Fram does it with 3 filters of different size is better than with just one big filter. Because if the smaller filter is worse, then it drags down the average. So for the average to still be 99%+ for 3 different sized filters says that they are running all running pretty high.

Actually guys I'm not sure if this is official yet but the Ultras are actually 99.9% @20 microns and I'm actually waiting for Motorking to find out when the new labels hit the packaging

New testing or improved media? Spill the beans when the light turns green!

Bought a WIX XP spin on ty[e oil filter, yesterday, at O'Rilleys Auto Parts on sale for $8.
Looked inside through the outlet hole with a mini LED flash light.

There is soft rubber gasket under the riveted on relief valve formed sheet metal housing.
The soft rubber gasket is sandwiched between the dome end filter media cap and the relief valve housing. There is a plastic piston that is preloaded with a compression steel spring. The compression spring is located in the housing on the outlet side of the
end cap. Pressure exerted on the plastic piston from the inlet side compresses the spring.

When the piston travels, two slots in the housing are opened up to the inlet side, allowing oil to flow into the center filter media support tube and bypassing the filter media upon cold start up.

Appears the rubber gasket was not centered probably when the relief valve housing was riveted to the steel end cap. The soft rubber gasket is bulged up on one side causing a gap between the housing and end cap. The remainder of the gasket appears to be flat up against the end cap.

The WIX XP spin-on oil filter is being returned today as being defective.

The design of the relief valve in my opinion is not reliable because the rivets that attach the housing to the end cap could fracture under road vibration load, especially if the filter was mounted horizontally.

Do you think they will still call them Ultras or maybe ultra Ultras?

This could get confusing.

That's because ZeeOSix has got everybody scared to death of it.

LoL ... WIX specs are WIX specs. Some people don't care about efficiency, but I think most do.

If you want a high efficient Wix XP filter then buy a used one
