Wix Quality = Poor

WIX is all over the map. I can't say I'm super impressed with the WIX products made for Amsoil.

WIX OF's 10+ years ago were very excellent construction. Today? Some sizes good, some funky. Tooling? Factory location? Country of Origin? I actually can't pin point it.

The MANN air filter for the Volvo seems to be top notch, but I got a couple a last year or the year before, so today may be another story.

I just replaced a WIX after 20000kms with a Fram in my Jeep Patriot. WIX was made in Indonesia, had 2 ply media, but half the pleats of the Fram that replaced it, and they were seperating on the edges. The fram was made in Mexico, single ply, lots of evenly spaced pleats.
I'd still like to find a made in USA filter for this thing.....the Fram # is CA10118.

No thanks. This one was slid back into the box, and back up on the shelf for someone else to buy.

The Wix offering for your Chevy is ten time better as I brought home the Fram, waited for UPS to arrive with my Amazon ordered Wix and there was no comparison. Fram went back to WM.

I also like how Wix does have the High Capacity version which my truck did come with vs. Fram who does not offer the second version but says to just use one and the same for both.
AC/Delco has an HC version and a standard version and so does Wix.

I will say this, for better for for worse, I had last used a new AC/Delco HC, and now with the Wix installed, my idle at startup is high.. 1k RPM.. not high really at all.. but with the AC/Delco.. I never idled that high unless it was very cold.

I try to use the best air filter I can get. I usually use Purolator P1 air filters. but I haven't had any problem with stand Purolator air filters for the msot part. If you have a GM ACDelco are good air filter but hard to find. Fram Toughgard AF seem like they are good.

The PureONE air filter looks nice ... high efficiency and an oiled paper design. Cool blue paper color. I can't find them locally though ... only the Classic air filters at K-Mart, who doesn't stock the PureONE air filter.

I just changed out the WIX filter (15 bucks) in my Yaris with a Toyota OEM unit (16 bucks, denso made in USA!). I had a feeling that the engine was not breathing too well with all the rain and wind we'd been getting - though I was not driving in heavy rain. The Wix fit well last year when it went in service; These are spun synthetic PET fibre. When I took the Wix out the 12 pleats in the airbox were all swollen fat and (possibly) closing off the airflow. The OLD toyota OEM that was removed with 1 year sevice (that the had WIX replaced) did not have this "swelling" issue. Now the fresh unit is in, I'll see how the 'lil nipper 1NZFE runs tonight. If you want pix I'll try to take one of the problem end - OEM v. Wix both with 1-year service (April -> April)

Fram CA4309 for 2.5 Altima. 75 pleats (with none of the drizzled goo, above), made in Canada for $4.99 at my local Magic Mart. It's all I've used/replaced every 30K and seems well made. For some reason Magic Mart has low prices on Fram air filters, though not all apps. I've had no issues with Fram air filters.

The Wix for my 08 Civic Si (same as late model Elements) is constructed very good. Nice, tight fit in box, tons of pleats and nice thick "hairy" media. It was marked "made in Korea". Much better than the OEM Honda filter. I guess is't really application specific. Now all those people who look at me funny for opening the box before I buy know why.

I don't know, and I wish I could find out more information about the type of element (this spun fiber). My '07 Corolla uses the same type of filter. I briefly considered replacing the OEM Denso filter with a Purolator, but they don't use the spun fiber media; it's a standard paper media shaped in a way that tries to emulate the OEM filter's media shape.

For the price of the OEM Denso filter, I doubt it can be beat. But like you, I'd really like to know how well these filter, flow, etc.

Just FWIW, I confirmed this tonight, while shopping at Advance for a cabin filter for the T&C. The Corolla's filter, from Purolator, was similar to the Fram that Bill posted about earlier (it did have a felt seal on the plastic cage), but the filtering media was standard paper in an "above and below" weave pattern, just like the OEM filter. I'm not sure why, if they were going to use a conventional media, not make it like any other filter (with the media on the inlet side of the filter with the mesh screen "behind" it).

Oh, it was also made in China. Boo to that. The Denso is made in USA.

Wix clearly outsources many of their air filter part numbers. You really never know what you are going to find inside the box.
