Why do hotels put comforters/duvets on beds... year around?

Call me old fashioned, but I don't need a thick quilted comforter/duvet on my bed in the summer. Why do hotels do this, year around? It is summer.... it is completely unnecessary. All that I need is a lightweight blanket, at the most.

Step one... untuck all of the sheets from underneath the mattress
Step two... choose a pillow or two from the six or eight provided
Step three... remove the duvet and find someplace to put it out of the way
Step four.... finally... go to bed.

I think they are very wasteful - people crank down the AC when it’s 95°F outside …
Living half of my life in nice hotels - I use them in the winter - and then “gut” them in the summer …
(leaves a double sheet) …

Hotel rooms usually stay at 72F. It shouldn't matter the outside temperature either way.

There is usually a clean blanket in a bag in the closet. Remove the comforter and install the blanket.

If you stay at an upscale hotel they will likely cater to your wishes (5 star). The Hampton likely will not.

Throw the thing in the corner

Pull all covers off and check for public hairs. Yep. Out!

One place had (Marriot!) skid marx in Le Pottee. Out!
I hear ya! We found blood on the floor in bathroom in a hotel we were "going" to stay at in Florida. Blood, not a couple of drips, I'm thinking a small rat bled out. OUT!!! Funny thing was when we went to the front desk to inform them, and let them know we weren't going to stay they weren't too concerned.

Same!

And when wife contacted Marriot corp, they weren't concerned either. Just wow.

I can't stay warm at times, especially at night. This is due to autoimmune issues. I even get cold in a FL summer!! The blankets are 100% necessary for me.

How long ago?

I have found since the pandemic hotels have fallen off bad. I used to just book whatever Hilton was closest to my first stop in the morning, but not anymore. When I find a hotel that is still good I just stay there when I am going to that town. Many that used to be good are now complete dumps. Using all brands now, much more particular.

This was probably about that C-19 time 2021-2022.

Yes, that sounds about right.

Hotels in some places turned awful. Service once every 3 days if you do stay. Lots of places using perfume instead of actually cleaning anything.

I have found a few here and there I try to stay with now. Number of Stars doesn't seem to matter either - no correlation.

I'm going to add one step that I ALWAYS do when I get into my hotel room.

Step 1.5 - Look for bed bugs

Yes, I have found them.

That’s what I do. They burn me up otherwise.
