I have a 2004 Honda CRV and a 2004 Honda Civic Si. I am going to start using Mobil 1 at my next oil change. I plan on doing 8-10K OCI.

Which oil filter is good enough for upto 8-10K OCI? Purolator PureOne, Premium Plus, Napa Gold/Wix, etc.? Which have you guys used for long OCI?

Of the three Virtuoso listed I'd go with the PureOne. All three are equally good but the PureOne costing less = better value.

My three cents.

I use Napa Gold's for 12,500 miles or 20,000km. They have a silicone ADBV and a glass reinforced media, both of which are great for extended OCI's. The price is very reasonable too.

I dissected a Pure One along with an equivalent Wix and AC Delco. I wouldn't worry too much about the Pure One clogging. It might have finer filtration media but there's lots more of it.

For a well maintained car, I wouldn't worry about a Pure One going 8-10kmi.

I retract my previous statement, my worrys were unfounded.

My bigger concern with longer intervals in a healthy engine is not element clogging, but pleat ruptures.

But any of the "top tier" aftermarket filters already mentioned should be serviceable for 10k in most applications. Take your pick.

Just going by memory, doesn't the owner's manual state a 10k OCI for normal (not severe) maintenance? In fact I recall some vehicle manufacturers, I thought Honda was one, state that the filter can be changed every other oil change for severe intervals. I think the OEM filter would be fine. I would use the Filtech made filter.

I personally have gone 12,000 miles several times on an Amsoil and a K&N filter. Both pricy and both looked good after removal. Of course, my opinion is that filters are pretty much useless in todays engines that in a shape using a high quality oil.

I would only use a Amsoil SDF filter for any OCI over 7500. Its the only filter made for an extended OCI. Maybe Mobil 1 has one out now for use with their extended life oil. Amsoil SDF filters are top of the heap in the SAE 806 capacity test, which tests how much junk they can hold before going into bypass. Exactly what you need for an OCI. But do not go over 12.5K with an Amsoil SDF as that is their design point.

It depends on how you're accumulating the 8-10k. If you're a sales type ..doing 30-60k a year. Anything will last 10k ..probably more. If you're doing 10-20k a year ..then you would probably need one of the premium brands mentioned (PureOne, Wix, M1, Amsoil).
