The WalMart I go to the most is in Hazleton, PA. Yes, I spelled it right! It's the town that was in the news for the Anti-Illegal housing ordinance. It's a wierd town, it got voted into a group of towns that were stuck 50yr in the past...or something like that. Anyway, I'm White and there are a good number of Hispanices there at the store. It's a non-issue of how bad the place is though. I'm not worried about my car, no unpleasntness in the isle....etc. (fwiw, I park in the TLE and am on a 1st-name basis with everyone)
However, some W*M can definately be mistaken for a battle zone. I needed to stop in the Allentown W*M Dec 26 last year...a zoo. I guess I am a fan of W*M, one-stop-shopping is the main appeal. Claiming they hurt the Ma&Pa shoppes and Main St. is a falsehood, those places were in decline for the last 20yr! The ones who provided good service, selection and prices did fine.
So OT now, I might as well go on. My GF's hometown is super-slow, 1 traffic light, dusty...etal. BUT- they do have a tiny main street, which is nice to have and an under-rated aspect of STUSA. The circus still comes to town, they have prades and biker rallys. All that Small-Town USA feel is something totally lacking in condos and McMansion developments. Like Buster said, Morrestown....pretty sweet place. Morisstown, the other one, in North Jersey... is the same deal....really nice. How it's kept nice is by home prices and even stuff like the cost at the Pizza Parlor, like $20/pie. Bottom line is that good and bad exist so closely anymore. 10 minutes form Buster's Morrestown is Camden, the Worst place in the country. No PP, but a lot of Rock.
