I Installed a 3/8" Magnefine filter about 2k miles ago on a 94 Mercury Sable AX4S trans and the fluid had been changed 10k before I installed the filter. The trans is a Ford Reman and has 105k miles on it. So I'm thinking that it may be a good idea to change the Magnefine because the fluid had been in the trans for 10k before the magnefine was installed. Am I wasting time and money or is it a good idea?

Hi
I have had mine on for 42,000kms - at 25,000 I took it off and opened it up - the filter was fine with a bit of dust on the magnet.
I called the manufacture - and they said 30,000miles or 1 year, but it has been tested to go past 3 years of service life.

I have had mine on for 1.5 years so far, no problems at all, and fluid is nice and clear/red.

Cheers

Even when the filter does go into bypass, the magnet should still pick up all ferrous material, correct? I've got one on my Pathfinder, installed at about 120k miles (have 131k now) and will replace it at 150k.

I went 40K on a Camry and there was only a little stuff in the media section and some metal paste (reminded me of never-seeze) on the magnet.

I'd go 30K.

If its filled you got bigger problems.

In a month or two I will be taking one off with 50,000kms on it - I will open it up and take some pics/post em.
