When do you take off your winter tires?

I usually take mine off around Easter, usually by tax day based on current temperatures and forecasts. If Northern trip planned I'd leave on. Forecast I saw today was about 3" north of NYC not sure towards NH. I kind of go with the Tirerack and others of under 45 degrees stick with winters. I drive at night (wrk midnights) and icy spots happen more often then the Day trippers encounter with the sun melt snow refreeze scenario.

If going south to FL or other I'd probably change before trip. North stay with snows.

Look at it this way...are you packing shorts/t-shirts/flip flops or pants/jackets/boots for trip? Pack your car the same way! Sneakers and wind breaker = all seasons or Boy Scout it and prepare for worse.

Yeah, so far about 12 inches here in MTL, and more to come... one of my colleagues took his winters off.. he regrets that move...

I was ready to do the swap this weekend but just watched the news and another storm is moving in. Guess i'll be waiting awhile longer.

Depends on the temps and the weather. Right now, the earliest it looks like it could be for me is mid-April. Got a fresh dump of snow a couple of days ago here.

Giving the snow we got this week ... looks like it's going to wait until another 3 or 4 weeks :S.

Actually, I'm not sure how long NYS lets you run studded tires.

Winter tires go on weekend before or after US Thanksgiving and come off the week after Easter. Same goes for new winter wiper blades that go on at Thanksgiving and new "regular wipers on at Easter. So far the timing has worked out well here in Chi.

Looks like a fair amount of snow in the Midwest to the Mid Atlantic coming today through Monday.

I took off my snow tires last week feeling optimistic. And the fact we had a few 60 degree days made me take them off since the compound is soft on my snow tires. I might have regrets. We will see what happens tomorrow morning. I might be trekking out to the pole barn for a quick tire change. I figure, this time of year it might be bad for a day or two, but then clear up. BTW: I put them on when the first big snow is forecasted. I have extra wheels for two cars and I have a lift, so changing tires is easy.

I'm sick of being limited to 55 on the highway. I'm thinking of throwing the summer tires on the car Wednesday.

I carry one of the winter tires as a spare. I think I will just keep an extra one in the trunk. If we get snow, I'll just swap two on.
