What pet is better in your opinion: dog or cat?

Good Afternoon BITOGERS. I personally think cats are better as pets. Don’t get me wrong Trevor is a great dog and “family pet” as sister in law says. He is an attention hound; especially when my sister in law and nephews are away. But I walk him 4 times day rain or snow or shine. No wonder he’s skinny 🤣

It depends what you want from a pet. Cat's character can be all over the place, from distant and aloof to constantly wanting attention. But with cats generally you're in an equal partnership, you're definitely not the boss like you are with a dog.

Both. Neither.

Cats can be OK outside, but not HERE. Cat poop smells worse than some of the food GON eats.

Dogs can go poop way out there, then they get old.

My wife has me. I respond as needed. Not sure what exactly the cats do. Mostly nothing.
Our cat lives outdoors - that means help eating her food from neighbors cat - but dogs inside …

The two best I've had:

Grew up with a Maine Coon cat, he lived a long time and was tough, very friendly, playful and followed us throughout the woods. Even on long hikes. He'd even check on me when I injured myself.

Currently have a Norwegian Elkhound dog. She's been a perfect companion. Happy to fly in my plane, excited when she sees the runway on descent, and especially happy when the FBO golf cart comes out! A great hunting companion, play companion, goes everywhere, loves everyone.

Without a doubt, the dog is a better companion though. Any activity from wading in streams (won't swim in the ocean), to long distance all weather walks, communicating her needs, and general intelligence.

Not my cat, but quite similar:

Like oil it depends on your own lifestyle. Having owned both but mostly cats imo the one major difference is that you must earn the affection from a cat. It's having to earn it that makes cat ownership special. Plus cats have an easier time inserting themselves into your daily life. The Maine Coon we just lost would lay his head on my arm while I ate breakfast or sleep on my chest at night. He would always want water from the bathtub while we were getting ready for bed and then hop into bed with us.

Pack membership is the default status of dogs so you don't really have to earn their affection. They'll take a lot of abuse really. Cats not so much.

Everything else which goes along with owning either a cat or a dog is essentially a wash between the two. For example, litterbox maintenance vs daily outdoor bathroom walks regardless of the weather. Both can suck.

Depends on the owner's needs. I've had several dogs and maybe a dozen or more cats. Dogs are better companions, furry sycophants really. Cats are more interesting. My latest feline just became blind after 21 years and I had to send her off to kitty heaven.

Dogs have masters, cats have staff.

I had a solid blue maine coon just like yours. He was awesome. We still get a laugh from when our door bell rang and he came trotting out of nowhere towards the front door growling. It was some people trying to get us to join their church.

I've had an unfriendly dog, good dog, and a great dog. Also, had a very small dog that had dog and cat qualities and a cat with dog-like qualities. I can't say cat or dog is better. At least dogs stay off the kitchen counters.

I like outdoor dogs, and outdoor cats that come in sometimes. TBH I couldn't handle having to walk a dog, or rushing home to let it out, maybe when the kids are grown up, but now we seem to have enough to manage.
