I use Armor All at every oil change on CV boots, steering boots, tires, etc. It did a fantastic job of removing carbon, soot, an smoke stains from the grill and the fire ring. Haven't tried to remove any grease with it.

From wikipedia- "PDMS is used as an environmentally-friendly dry cleaning solution under the licensed name GreenEarth Cleaning"
