Got this last Thanksgiving. Great read so far
"Never" finally came in at the library. What's really scary is that it could happen ...yes it's good.
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes-the book really makes you think! I will make note of your recommendation!"Never" finally came in at the library.
Just finished it - very gripping, chillingly plausible.
I had read Follett's "Fall Of Giants" a few years ago, and found his explanation of how the European powers blundered into war in 1914 excellent.
In the forward to "Never", the author says the idea was to write a modern-day equivalent. Mission accomplished.
You might enjoy Stephen Hunter's cold war novel "The Day Before Midnight".
After what seemed like 100 years I finally finished “The Count of Monte Cristo” and I started “The Silmarillion” the other day.I've seen all the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies, as well as the Rings of Power on Amazon, but I wanted to read the original source material.

I had heard of Wheels and some how forgot about it .... Duh! I will look for Wheels next. It is certainly up my alley with my obsession for all things "rolling" or that have ever "rolled!" There are some awesome books out there about Henry Ford as well as the Dodge brothers and many other innovators who are responsible for our advances to where we are today.Just finished Murder On The Brazos by Hammack and now rereading Wheels by Haley.
A few of Haley's books are currently in Kindle Unlimited, Wheels being one I think. If you have a Kindle and KU you can read it for free. You may also want to look at books by Robert Serling (the brother), The President's Plane Is Missing for a good story and any of his books on major air carriers of the past. And Mark Nolan, Ben Rehder and Scott Pratt if you just like great stories.I had heard of Wheels and some how forgot about it .... Duh! I will look for Wheels next. My thing with books and to some extent movies has always been that I have a stronger liking for TRUE stories than I do for FIction.A few of Haley's books are currently in Kindle Unlimited, Wheels being one I think. Well, I can't imagine anyone not liking any I mentioned but based on true stories over fiction look into Robert Serling. And if you choose you can listen in your head to his brother Rod reading the introduction to you.My thing with books and to some extent movies has always been that I have a stronger liking for TRUE stories than I do for FIction.
Now I do enjoy once in a while some Sci-Fi. Like last night on our streaming Tv there was the classic Sci-fi western the wife and I recalled from our high school years Westworld we both enjoyed. Then we got to talking and recalled they made a so called follow up titled Future World. Sorry ........ way off subject but I will certainly look for WHEELS as I have a feeling I will enjoy that one.
Thanks. You know how it is. Especially for folks who like to read I'll bet. If you are like me ..... one can often stumble across a book or even a movie one would think not interested in and then turns out very like able. That has happened to me a lot especially when it came to music in the past. I find myself as I get older listening to and appreciating music I would never have given a second thought to. This has happend to me with certain cars from the 1970s. Please post any new ones you enjoy so some of us can look into those as well. I am deep into one my son gave me. He knows my passion for USA + Worldwide history so he just gave me the IKE DDE Eisenhower book that is about 4" to 5" thick! LoL He is trying to keep me busy. He just happens to be teaching grammar school history this year too.Well, I can't imagine anyone not liking any I mentioned but based on true stories over fiction look into Robert Serling. I read Wheels as a car-crazy 17 year-old, and again just a few years ago. It held up well. Yeah, Haley was a formulaic hack, but to simple me his books were always a good read.Just finished Murder On The Brazos by Hammack and now rereading Wheels by Haley.
Historians consider Ike near-great (not first-rank, but close). I think he's underrated, especially when one looks at his life in whole.EISENHOWER In War and Peace By" Jean Edward Smith.
Always have been in awe of the man but something else got me even more interested. My mother's family side , my grandfather (man's been passed away for 40 years) and I still miss him dearly , had an older brother named Cecil Braud who was an MP Sergeant in the Army in WWII. Somehow along the way he became , first part of IKE's security team. Then became his driver and one of his personal assistants , and one of several personal body guards to him when he travelled. I had never heard of a set up like that in the military but....? Anyway I was gifted for Christmas one year from a great aunt a paper back book they had created on the life story of her father , the Sergeant. The book is about the family growing up raising cattle and farming , but is filled with lots of stories of her father and his exploits in Africa and in Europe travelling all along with IKE and his crew.
The world and the USA sure could use many more men like DDE , IKE these days more than ever.
I am pretty sure I read Hotel more than once in my early 20s and loved it. I am pretty sure there was a major Hollywood movie made about the movie with the same title from the 1960s. Some may call it BORING! But I thought it was a very well made "period" film that just simply showed a slice of a certain time in America. Matter of fact the movie stared some real big Hollywood talent from the late 60s. I need to look into the Moneychangers as well. Thanks for listing those.I read Wheels as a car-crazy 17 year-old, and again just a few years ago. It held up well. I also enjoyed Airport, The Moneychangers, In High Places, Hotel, and Overload.
