CO2's decision to turn to dry ice when conditions favour it makes it one of my least favourite liquids...I don't like it in refrigeration.

I mixed a batch for a guy in a Landrover that had leaked out it's 134...it snows inside the car if the humidity is right...he's happy.
 
What are the pressures like if CO2 is used as a refrigerant ?

The idea makes me smile . What are all the Global Warming Greeny Weenies going to say ? :)

It's extremely high, the heat transfer thermodynamics are good but the application is difficult for a lot of reasons. You can't use a regular expansion cycle either, the reason for this is due to the phase diagram for CO2. If the cooling system gets hot then the pressure skyrockets and all sorts of bad things can happen.

And to your second point, CO2 actually has a much lower GWP than HFCs do.
