I'm looking at adding to my gun collection. Ive got a SW 686 plus deluxe and SW Shield Plus.

Now I'm wanting a full size or just bigger gun than these other two. Mostly for target shooting but I'd also be carrying it, though less often than the shield plus, due to size.

Does anybody have experience with the Walther PDP pro? Or anything similar they'd recommend? Must be optics ready, 9mm, reliable, great trigger, and a great shooting gun.

Budget?

While it does not fit the Optic ready category, I always recommend the HK USP. They have them in 9mm. It can be done, but not from the factory I dont think. They are IMO the best made pistols in the world. It will shoot any kind of 9mm you can stuff into it, reliably, forever. And they are cool. Not many these days have them. I have 2.

That being said, I would recommend the VP9 or SA Echelon, optic ready version as the lowest cost versions. I have shot both, and they are slick. Glocks are excellent guns, but not cool. They work well, but are ugly and boring.

"Midrange" cost, the SA Prodigy is a slick as glass gun, with all of the features you stated. Stupid nice shooting gun.

High range, to really high range, Taran Tactical has some really crazy guns, but way out of what I would pay for a bullet slinger.

I'll check them out! Thank you.

Pdp and vp9 are always being compared.

Im considering the metal full size M&P 2.0
It may sound crazy to some, but IMO polymer is better than steel, in some applications, such as pistol frames. It of course depends on design. The metal 2.0 looks cool, but i see no advantage other than the cool factor. They do melt in your hands though, the M&P.

Do you want to spend $1k or is that the max?

Canik makes some nice pistols that fit all of your requirements and can be had for half that.

I've never shot one, but I've held the H&K VP9, and I was in love. Sadly, my domestic purchasing manager nixed the idea. Said my Glock was "good enough". Pfft!
