What temperature would you need to "flash off" all the oil, leaving the ash ?
 
Well, that's a point of semantics. In reality the oil will combust with the fuel and leave behind any ashy deposits; a simple distillation will not create any ash (as you know!).

It doesn't help that people talk about ash content of an oil, which is wrong. It is ash propensity, because you need the combustion (oxidation) to form the ash from the metallic elements in the additives (stating this for all interested readers, not aimed specifically at Shannow).
