I go back and forth on this myself, but usually stick to 15W40 dino or 5W40 syn diesel oil. You just can't go wrong on these two oils IMHO. 30wt sure, if that's your cup of tea. All the other suggestions 5W30 syn etc, yeah, they work. The truth is, change it with whatever you have and it'll likely outlast the deck.
For my JD 425, water cooled I use 15w40 or 5W40, for my push mower it's usually 15w40 or Rotella 30wt. Oh [censored], I forgot, my newest push mower takes a 40V battery, Hah! no oil! Blasphemy!!!
