For the last three oil changes in my 1997 Ford F150 4.6 I've been running 5w30 Valvoline Max Life. I have no complaints whatsoever with this oil. I was using the Valvoline AC and it did use between a 1/4 to 1/2 a quart over 3000 miles. With the Max Life the truck does not use any oil and at 3000 miles, the oil still looks great. Truck seems to run smoother also.

I've been hearing alot about how great Havoline is and I like the price of it. Does the Valvoline Max Life edge out the Havoline on performance?
Anybody compared both oils in their vehicle?

I do not have access to Havoline High Mileage oils.

Both are great oils for little $$$. Advance Auto Parts sells Havoline HM oils....if you have any stores in your area.

How many miles do you have on your F150 ??

I have 88,200 on my Ford. I know that's not really alot of miles but I fell for the 75,000 mile thing. I plan on having this truck for many, many, years and plan go at least 200,000 miles or more on it.

Oh yeah, I do not have an Advance Auto store near me. The closest is about 45 miles from my town.

I know TallPaul said that regular MaxLife was a 15% PAO blend in the SL formula, not sure about the SM though. I would say try the Havoline and see if it uses oil. If not, use it, if it does, go back to MaxLife.

Thanks for the replys. I am curious enough to try the Havoline and see if my motor uses any oil with it. I know the the new Havoline has loads of Moly but what about the SM MAXLIFE. Is it a PAO blend?
