Used PP 5W-20 in the Element instead of M1 0W-20

Thought I'd try my stash of PP 5W-20 in our 2004 Honda Element with 52K on the clock.

The PP 5W-20 feels as good driving as the M1 0W-20, 'perhaps' the engine revs a bit more freely or smoothly which suprised me.

I would have thought advantage M1 0W-20.

I'll see how consumption is with the PP. M1 was close to zero consumption over 7K intervals.

I may have to buy more PP 5W-20 during the rebate promo.

I have almost 4,000 miles on the PP 5W20 with no noticable oil usage. Its in my 2005 element awd with the AEM CAI and a heavy foot. It seems a bit less noisey compared to the Kendall that the dealer had been putting in, Tim

Gentlemen, your Elements will love PP 5W20. My family owns three Elements, 2004, 2005, & 2006. All have PP 5W20 in them. At the present time due to severe driving conditions they are going through, I am changing the oil at 5,000 miles. The 2004 will be out of warranty in about two weeks due to mileage, then it will go on a 7,500 change interval. None of them use any oil between oil changes.

Cool!

"At the present time due to severe driving conditions they are going through, I am changing the oil at 5,000 miles."....does that mean the heat wave? Or something else?

I've stuck to the 7K OCI and M1 0W-20 since the first oil change at 3K...but this time since it has been so hot and my daughter was home I changed the oil sooner...at 5600 miles.

I may have to run to AA's in Denver and pick up more PP 5W-20 and get the rebate action!

Mostly very cold winter driving, but it has been a bit warm lately. The problem with mine are they never seem to leave the city limits. Very short trips, a lot of starts and stops. The 2006 is getting ready to take our yearly trip to Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. When we get back it will have over 7,000 on the oil.

I have always taken the side of caution. Besides being retired from Pennzoil (Shell) I get a VERY GOOD deal on my Platinum, so cost is not a factor at all.

Johnny,

Where have you been hiding? I know! Cashing in all of those oil company stock options once the price per barrel started climbing like an F-15!

Welcome back!

dk: Well I did cash in a few of them. I did something I've wanted to do for years, I bought myself an airplane. Been spending a lot of time at the airport and taking short trips here in Wisconsin. Just trying to enjoy retirement to it's fullest

Well then, the F-15 analogy was close, no?

As a "172 driver," here's wishing you "happy landings."

Thanks for the info Johnny! Congrats on the plane!

We've got a lot of pilots in our family from B-29 to F-111 and F-16.... general aviation and airline pilots. I used to own a Rockwell twin.

I wish I had a 172, mines just a simple little 150, but it's a lot of fun. After going to Oshkosh next week and taking a tour of the Cessna plant in Independence on August 3rd, I might have to look at a 172.

TWBG,

Would you have us believe that ANYONE in Vail actually changes their own oil? LOL!

The last time I was there skiing, I noticed they had valet parking at the Iffy Lube and Cappacino & scones in the waiting room...

Hey, I'll be heading down to Oshkosh for the week as well! Looking forward to the flight down - will be in a 172RG - looking at a 8 hour flight!
