Used oil filters

Changed my oil and Filter today. After I finished, I took my old oil and filter to the township building where I live near to dispose my oil and filter ( They have a place there to do this.) There was a barrel to put used oil filters in and saw that alot of residents did their oil changes this month. So I figure I 'd take a pic of hwat everyone has been using. The brands of filters I see in here change from time to time. I think the last time I saw a lot of napa and wix branded filters.

The P1 right in the middle sitting with the base end up doesn't look like it was ever even used!

You're right. At least not for the mandatory 2 OCI.

more P1 than i would have expected... the OCOD/GCOD ratio is about right

and then it looks like maybe one TLE filter in there too

I run my BD+ filters for two OCI's. I do pull them off and empty the filter, but then it goes back on for a 2nd go 'round.

Actually that wasn't a TLE filter. Some Brand I never heard of. We don't have a TLE here at the local walmart. Nearest one I think is an hour or two away

Filter waste runs lock-step with oil waste.
No surprise there.

To see that (nearly?) unused P1 sitting there makes me cringe. Or perhaps it was a victim of the 3mo/3k mile OCI mantra. Someone probably had about 1.5k miles on it after 3 months in grandma's garage, and did her a "favor" by doing an OCI for her ...

Or, the user thought like me and changed their filter every OCI, and early.

Roger to that BOF. I run sythetic oil and OEM filters six months. Have been doing that for years. Never thought of myself as a polluter ,but I can certainly understand what is being said about too frequent oil and filter changes. I may not be able to do my own maintenance in a few years and extended OCIs may be the way I have to go. Regards

I can hardly sit here and say" Someone changed their oil and filter too soon" without knowing anything about these filters and the vehicles they were on.

Bingo! Rather than worry about filters not being used for their "proper" life cycle, it is better to worry that they are being properly disposed of/recycled.
