Hey guys I was wondering if you guys could give me a suggestion. My dad has an 04 Titan he bought used 5 years ago. He never took it in to get the ATF changed and the milage is currently at 96k miles. I want to change his ATF today but was wondering if changing the fluid will damage anything. He uses the truck to tow a lot so thats why I am a bit concerned. Any suggestions?

New ATF can't damage anything. Also new ATF won't fix something that is broken.

Definitely time for a pan drop, inspection, filter.... and a complete ATF exchange.

Can't be towing too much if the rear-end is still together :-)

Nothing is seems broken at all, I just thought it was 66k miles past due for a change according to the owners' manual.

If it's 60k miles past due for a change, don't mess with it. You don't want to be the one to blame for messing up his transmission.

I speak from experience. I have a 2005 Titan. Some will tell you that a drain and fill is all that is needed. Don't listen to them, you need to get all the old fluid out and fresh fluid in.

I used the BG synthetic transmission fluid and had no issues. I know others that have used Amsoil and love it. You can get the Matic S fluid from Nissan, or use any compatible such as Amsoil, Mobil 1, BG, or Royal Purple.

There is some TSB from Nissan about not flushing transmissions. This does not apply to a proper fluid exchange. You can buy the 13 qts and take it somewhere or use www.bgfindashop.com if you want that service.

Not bad, but you will get far better results from any of the synthetics that have been mentioned. If it says it's matic J compatible, you should be fine. But like I said, other Titan owners have had great luck with the synthetic fluid.
