There will be lots of deals between then and now.

What do you want to spend?
If you want stay at the lower end, the General RT43 has had good reviews here and on CR.
A little higher and the Pirelli P7 AS+ has good reviews here and on CR.
Coopers don't seem to offer as much wet or snow grip as either of the above, but the one set of Coopers I've had seemed perfectly adequate in these conditions and they also wore very well.
There is also a universe of cheaper tires available.
You don't do many miles, so a tire offering good wet and snow performance might be more of a priority for you than one offering long tread life.

the Generals are actually at the highest end of the price spectrum.

if i wanted Pirelli's I would just go the the ford dealer and get another set of the OE P6's,($119/ea) which have until recently been great. (last 2 sets of tires I've purchased were p7's on my Y2k Sonata, and P4's on my neon, both were fabulous, but with Pirelli having sold out to a Chinese investment group...)

never said i was concerned about long tread life, these just seem to be what is available in my size.

and while yes, i could put it off until the fall, being realistic,I probably won't have the $$ then. I do now (tax refund).

went and ordered the Cooper CS5 Ultras today, 4 day "special order" should be in tues. as long as i don't need TMPS sensors or rebuild kits, out the door $593.53

then cooper has a $70 MIR..

how can you go wrong with the coopers? being the hometown brand is a real plus. if locals don't support the local business, everything else being equal...

I had these put on my Buick a couple weeks ago and last week we had a foot of snow and they worked great. So far I'm really liking them. I was also impressed at how little weight it took to balance them, one wheel didn't require any at all.

exactly.
I now have tires from a Local-ish company( HQ ~45 min away), made in Tupelo, MS (Checked the DOT Code), purchased from a Locally owned/operated Tire Shop.
it just don't get more 'Murican than that!

plus they are just good tires to boot.

This Shop charges:
$05/tire for "Free"Lifetime rotation,
$07/tire for "Free"Lifetime rotation, + "Free" Flat repair
$10/tire for "Free"Lifetime rotation, + "Free" Flat repair, + Road Hazard

I went Back the Next Day and added the $10/tire pkg, as Construction Season, both road and otherwise, are in Full Bloom around here, and I'd Basically be stupid Not to have some sort of Road Hazard Coverage...
