Do you have any idea how much more it cost to fly overseas in 1970 compared to today?
I can give you somewhat of an estimate, because I paid for my family to join me in Germany in March 1977. MCI thru JFK to FRF. Price was $220 (per seat, I think -- memory isn't so good after all these years) for one adult and two children over the age of 2. With inflation that is $1120 in today's dollars.
Was there a dress code to fly back in the day?
I believe folks just took pride, back in those days.
We used to wear suits to church and funerals, more blue jeans these days than suits.
I went to Hawaii one January, leaving snowy Chicago. We got there and a hurricane was passing to the south of the islands. It was cloudy and misty the one day we went to the beach. I'm a light skinned norther European type and the only one who got a sunburn that day out of our crowd of about a 100 people..
Wife and I are going to Barcelona and flying economy plus and we are paying $2800 each roudtrip and that includes taxes and airport fees. Daughter and husband are flying first class and I think its over $9k ea., dpn't know if that is roundtrip or not. I haven't flown first class in yrs. Leaving from NJ.
