It's time for an oil change in my wife's 2014 Lincoln Navigator. It has the 3 valve 5.4L V8 and it takes 7 quarts of 5w20.

I have a bit of oil that I have around from previous changes:
5qt Redline 0w20
1 qt Sustina 0w20
1qt MINI 5w30
1 1/2 qt Mobil 1 15w40
1qt Castrol, Nextgen 5w30

I was thinking of using the Redline along with the Sustina and the Castrol Next gen. Would that be ok? Would another combo be better? Should I buy 2 qt of something to add to the Redline? Just give in and get something specifically for this beast?

FWIW, it is about 80% suburban driving to the tune of 7-8k mikes a year.

The oil goes in looking pretty and comes oil ugly and stinky. It won't kill your engine.

Looks like you're going out of your way there.

If this isn't your beater, I'd go to the store and get two more quarts of Redline.

But that's just me.

Dump all the leftovers first and add the redline last until it's full.

So it looks like 2 votes for a mix of the oils, 2 votes for getting two more redline, & one vote for the mix I had proposed in the OP. Any tie breakers out there?

You ask if "another combo would be better"...when the answer clearly is that ANY combo is a guess, any recommnedation FOR a particucular combo is a guess, and the only actual known is a sump full of the same stuff without mixing.

Only people speaking with knowledge of the most correct answer are those advocating using one oil at a time.

Either look in the Owner's Manual or search online for the oil requirements. I'm sure the '14 Navigator requires an oil that meets Ford's spec. If Redline does so, go for it.

Jeez, it's a two year old Navigator. What was it $50,60,70 grand? Buy some new oil and keep your scraps for top offs or a beater.

agree 100%
Begs the question, what cars are you buying oil new for, if the 2014 is getting the scraps.

I don't understand it either. Penny-wise, dollar-foolish.

It will work, but I'd buy all the same oil and use that. In a beater I'd have no problem mixing it. Something that new that I own gets all the same oil.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!

Surely you must be putting that in a 20+ year old truck that burns oil and you don't expect to get more than 500 miles with it!

/sarcasm

The unlabeled bottle would scare me a bit. Bar & chain lube maybe?

1998 F-150, 180K miles on a 4.2L V6.

I am relatively sure the mystery bottle is Quaker State, unknown weight and vintage. Maybe 85-90% sure. Maybe.
