The only problem i see here is GHT posts the same thing in 3-4 threads gets advice and then boom thread 5 about similar issue pops up.

by the time we are on topic 4 for same problem I consider that alike to trolling. and any helpful posts are diluted across 4 topics.

similar to carnooble and chevyboi.

if he actually read the advice and did something he wouldnt need 4 new topics about the same issue.

and spending limited funds on tools that are not necessary just complicates the issue.

its easy to get help
Here is an action plan for you GHT.

READ helpful posts

apply $$$ to actual problem in parts and labor

Post thank you.

do not start 2-3-4-5 new topics about same problem without doing anything.

anyone who thinks my posts arent helpful or trolling

please go sort by user and read ALL of these threads of bitog pollution. I believe there is 3 visible in this section alone on page 1

Rand, I hear you. And I agree.

The car is at Sam's right now. It is down for the Coolant Temp Sensor, and I *hope* a Thermostat, and coolant flush.

I am also curious as to what the shop labor rates, or manual says as to how much a T-belt job is. I ask because there is *some* chance that I can arrange to have him do this!! (It is there, and we aren't using/don't need the car this week.)

Should I stick to the "Running Volvo" thread?

contrary to most herd mentality thoughts which is abundant in this thread, there are people out there that have differing opinions or cannot troubleshoot and think in logical steps. i've done enough tech support work over the last 15 years to understand that its just not possible with different people. i bet though they have a talent which said internet mechanics could not even touch with a 50 foot pole.

i think as a whole people who gang up on GH repeatedly need to step back and spend your precious time focusing on your own skills versus showing the entire internet how much of a douche you really come out to look like.

enjoy, and continue this thread for another 12 pages.

and before you complain about me beating a dead horse calling people out, pot kettle black my friends.

That is good news! A step in the right direction.

Perhaps with another application of Seafoam it'll be night-and-day improved!

Were you kidding?
An intermitent fault is worse than a persistent one to diagnose.
You can throw parts at the one and not know whether you've fixed it or not, while with the other, you'll know for sure when you've replaced the right part.

Sam thinks the CTS is a logical place to start, since it was the only code.

I am inclined to agree with him.

I don't read the sarcasm, folks.

Also, good news: He says it is a "dealer only part." Therefore.. it will come from... *dun-dun-DUNNNN*... The dealer.

Also: It did NOT start for Sam this time, so. This time, he can't shrug it off and say "it started for me." So, we are "on it"...
Since I am an alleged idiot over here...............

GHT, are you keeping a running total cost on this vehicle (purchase price plus parts/repair) ?

Has "Sam" performed an overall inspection and shared the results on items like transmission, AC, exhaust etc.

I understand that you are addressing getting the car running but if it were my car I would like to have an idea of expected short term/ near term repairs

You have received several suggestions to find a good Volvo independent. I think paying for an overall assessment is wise
