The new Jeep

They can keep it. No diesel. Why in the heck would I want a jeep that's even more of a gas hog? What are they thinking? I like the look over the current Liberty.

I'd bet they'll end up with a diesel option, assuming the cost of diesel comes down. I'd like a small version of this instead of the Liberty... preferably with a new inline-six engine. This is the direction that should have taken.

They figured if gas hogs worked for GM it'll work for them

Well, yes ..but only after it somehow is rendered useless in saving fuel. Somehow they will spoil it ..or make it only on higher end trim packages ..or something ..laden it down with more this and that.

Anything that would normally be sensible and highly desirable will surely be sabotaged.

That looks like an enlarged and updated older Cherokee. Not exactly groundbreaking although I liked the older Cherokee just fine.

I liked the Liberty too and was considering getting one before I bought my 4Runner. Until I saw how little cargo space it had and realized the rear seats don't fold flat.

It looks better than the Liberty. For more info, without the spyware:

Diesel is still undecided. This site has the most up to date info about the Commander and its sister sites, WJJeeps.com (99-04 Grand) WKJeeps.com (05-?? Grand) have lots of info as well.

It looks like they took a body from a mid 90's Isuzu Trooper and put a new front end in it

That's what I was hoping the Liberty would end up like from the concept Dakar. Instead it sorta looks like a Disneyland version of a Discovery with a Chevron Gasoline commercial claymation face applied to it.

Aside from making an available high mpg powerplant, the only thing they didn't screw up was the Wrangler. This too will occur in due time. It's solid front axle design days are surely numbered.

Aw man thats nasty.

I'd take any old Jeep Wagoneer or a Commando over that thing.
