Tearolator Victims

Purolator has been contacted by quite a few members here when this all stated happening spring/summer of 2014. Purolators response was minimal (some feedback was given by a few members), then just crickets from Purolator.

They know all about it ... if they don't then they shouldn't be making oil filters.

I haven't used their filters since the eighties.
That said the Fram ultra is so well made I see no reason to even consider buying from them. No use in chasing a bad product.
Companies fix issues usually when their sales dry up.

But then again Fram was there before them.
To each his own.

That's what I was wondering.

+1 I have yet to hear about any engine damage of the kind the Fram did to Minimopar's engine.

Don't buy the cheapest filters.......spend a few bucks more for premium filters.
My cars are worth it.

They wont do anything because that would require that they admit that it is a problem which they still haven't done.

Quite probably none, however, there is the chance of increased wear if any abrasives or hard particles made it through the tears. If the oil is clean, a small amount bypassing the filter media probably doesn't hurt anything. If you never have a fire, a broken extinguisher will be fine.

If the service life of an engine is cut by a few thousand (or a few tens of thousands) of miles by dirty oil, who would know?

It seems apparent on top of their silence and denial strategy, they are simply going to roll out "new" filters to make it all go away.

The new filters may be fine, even good, but their approach to the whole debacle was horrible IMO and I have no plans to do any more business with them as a result.

Shame on Purolator.
