I have been toying with replacing my jeep with something more usefull. Found this Tacoma for sale at a used car lot.

It's in ok condition. Usual parking lot dings and worn tires.

I need a 4x4 and a little truck would be more usefull than the Jeep. It also uses the same filters as the FJ we have.

I don't think I can swing the $600 a month payment though.

I paid 30k for a 13’ Tacoma V6 with 30,000 miles in 2020…I wish I would have kept it. It was definitely the wrong time to be buying a car then, but the miles were extremely low. A Nissan Frontier from the same year would be a lot cheaper and more affordable and able to do everything the Tacoma would do. Definitely check those out. You could pickup a 19-20’ model year Frontier for the same price you could this Tacoma.

Don't you mean talk you out of it? KBB.com says that truck in that zipcode private party value is $15k-$18k. They are asking 1/3 higher than highest value for it. It is insane alright. But only whoever pays that for it. Keep looking and while doing so read Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover. Good (better?) luck.

Just buy a new one at that point.
Indeed. Looks like it was $27k new, which inflates to $37k now. Guessing that a new 2024 of similar options is about $37k.

But $25k with 134k on the clock? granted it's rust free (was just looking at RAV4 today with similar miles and I'll be way more rust) but still. Only if they are actually honest about "make an offer", meaning they know they aren't getting that price. Maybe their strategy is to start high, knowing that a potential buyer will start low?

Way too high but to be expected as it's a Tacoma. What about a slightly used Jeep Gladiator pickup?

Your Jeep deserves better than to be kicked to the curb for this over priced insanity.
You’ve hinted many, many times finances are tough for you…this isn’t the answer. I’m not being a hypocrite, I’ve got a 2009 G5 that is staying on the road bc I’m in the same boat!
Please don’t do this to yourself!!

This is probably more in my price range plus a stick shift!

I know you like Toyota, and I get it - but that price is insane for a 13 year old truck.

If you need something soon look for a Frontier. I know lots of people here bash Nissan's - and in most cases they deserve it - but the D40 vintage with the VQ40 engine is a awesome truck for half the price. Just don't buy one with Smod. 2011 - 2019 you should be safe from that fate, if you do end up looking at older let me know and I can run through the known issues.

11 is way better than 25. You keep your stuff forever so I'm sure you can keep it going.

The new tacos are (arguably) underpowered so they use gearing to make up for it.

That orange thing looks like it was built and fixed up in a low cost of living area "to the south". Who knows how much Bondo or surprises lurk.
