Strangely pluging into the Tivoli's aux input gives very good results. But of course the volume is limited to the little radios output.
I'm betting it sounds lousy because the headphone-output driver ckt is designed to only drive a high-impedance, when you connect it to a line-level input on a receiver, the low impedance overloads the little heaphone output stage, resulting in high distorsion. What you need is a buffer ckt with a high input impedance and a low output impedance + some gain. It's easy enough to build one with an op-amp or a few transistors, but may be more than you're looking for.
High impedance headphone output drivers are not up to the task of driving a line-level input.
