A few weeks ago I put a new water pump in a 2015 Dodge truck with a 6.7 Diesel. The belt was pretty new according to the customer and after looking at it and testing it with a wear gauge I agreed that it's ok to reuse. The belt was a top quality Gates green strip belt.
This water pump is just 2 bolts and it falls off, similar to the old 5.9 diesel.
1400 miles later something shredded the belt. The belt came apart with so much force that it ripped the wires out of the fan clutch and the harness. All the pulley's and such spin fine.
I put a tensioner, belt and fan clutch on it and repaired the harness. No idea what got into the belt. Maybe a piece of road debris?
