I wish i had one of the previous examples but I'm all out. Today i picked up a couple of these with Auto Zone's oil special deal. The filter used to be smaller than the S2808XL and S2808ML but they are all the same size now. The base plate is free of overspray around the edges and they now come with the plastic shrink wrap like the XL and ML...

No efficiency numbers on box.

Warren, thank you for the pics. I'd use either filter

GTX Ultraclean Synblnd 5/20 next in the 2.4 DI engine. Do you know the Calcium level? Is it SN+?

Do you recall how much$ that STP XL was at Auto Zone this month?

Hi Triple_Se7en
I haven't seen a U/VOA on it yet, but yes, it's SN Plus. I have no worries it's low Calcium.

I think the S2808XL was $8.xx. But you can get them as part of their oil change special. Google "Auto Zone Oil Change Special".

Funny you mention that. The previous examples i mentioned in the original post were MADE IN USA. It's a shame these look and feel of much higher quality.

I believe the XL online names 99 percent at or above 20 microns. The blue premium guard is likely 96 percent at 25 microns. PG makes filters for Federated Auto and AZ plus many others. These are well made filters has a rule.

I remember reading a press release where Champion Labs inked a deal with the Chinese. They have the milestone on their Company page.

Champ Filtration- Company page

"In 2017, the company expanded its presence as a global supplier of quality filters by opening a facility in Shanghai, China."

However... These filters are quite likely Premium Guard made ones. They are exactly the same has what I have gotten at Federated Auto.

I also bought some Dino STP, might use that next instead.

The majority of standard AZ STP blue were Champ Labs and made in US. I say majority because there were some areas like Pa., showed made by Puro. Always Champ Labs here excepting brief fram/champ alliance filters. Recent post HERE shows internals of the new STP blue. As noted, looks like old AAP Driveworks also Pentius OF anecdotes with same coo. Efficiency information no longer on box.

Don't really understand sizing difference, or comparison. S2808/9688/3593a I've seen all similar, possible one could be slightly shorter by not significantly different for filter oil volume. And unlike the Wix made Super Tech, STP never consolidated the 9688 to the 7317 size.

Cleaner but with excess glue on the XL. This outsourcing to China never stops. Good find Champ opened a factory in China. Likely this is what is going on with STP and AZ filters. More profits. Not for me, lost a customer, not that I matter so much. I would rather see Champ filters made in Illinois in cargo containers going to China.

But.....this is not a drive works.... It's made by PG,... And that is obvious. And like I said earlier.... The "efficiency" for the black one is online.... 99% greater than 20 microns. These both are made by Premium Guard.

If addressed to me, I never said STP blue was a Driveworks. Specific quote about STP blue only "looks like old AAP Driveworks also Pentius OF anecdotes with same coo". Google search of this site will confirm both. As for who makes them, whoever. As accurately noted by OP and confirmed efficiency no longer on box for blue or XL.

As for AZ XL site info, my speculation is info remains from previous S. Korea manufacturer Daewha, who also had same efficiency information on box. Google search of this site will also confirm that information. Also Premium Guard are noted to be "99% Multi-Pass efficiency and removal of particles as small as 25 microns ", not 20um. "If' XL is a PG as stated, further proof AZ site info not current.

Well that is interesting, funny how their history does not mention UIS ownership for YEARS, or the Carlyle group, UCI or Fram Filtration.

and a plant in China makes sense, Don't see growth in EU region, as they implode.

I just discovered, They have more than one website.

Here is the press release:
Press release

Having a factory in China gives them a global manufacturing foot print and an outlet for Asian sales.

This does not necessarily mean the US market is getting filters from the Chinese factory, yet.

I am not surprised we are seeing a moving target.

The last STP S2 I used was US manufactured.

It can be interesting to see where these companies make their investments.
