There's an evil company called Direct Marketing Assocation that's responsible for most of the junk mail you get. 95% of the stuff I get in the mailbox is junk and it [censored] me off. DMA has a way to opt-out but you have to do it every few years. They also have a way to opt out for a deceased person; I assume this is permanent. I was thinking about doing this. Anyone see a problem with this?

What if the state or your utility company use the DMA to get this info? I think the hassle of trying to convince them you're not dead would outweigh the hassle of contacting the DMA every so often to tell them to take your name off of their lists.

You'd be upsetting the Postmaster General, LOL!

Just hope they don't sell data to the credit reporting agencies. That could take a while to sort out.

I di it and it has helped. you can send in a signed form to make it permanate. Also, contact the three big credit reporting agencies. they sell your information the most. Google it...

By the way, call your credit card companies. tell them not to sell your information. they are the worst. they know where you spend money and sell your information to them. If you purchase papers, magazines you must tell to take your name off the mailing list. Geico is the worst.

My young son's mom has been dead for 10 years and I still get mail for her with her previous married name on it. Mostly from credit card companies.
I admit it's not a frequent now but it still comes from time to time.

Funny thing is when she died and I contacted Discovery about her credit card, they wanted a copy of the death certificate. I sent one through certified mail, to make sure the manager I talked to got it, and they still sent offers out in her name.

If the junk mail has pre-paid postage reply envelopes, just cut out your address and bar codes, stuff the whole thing back in the reply envelope and drop it in the mail.

It won't stop the junk mail, but it might help out the USPS with a little bit of revenue.

This what I do. The USPS needs our help. It may come to you as junk mail, but it returns to the sender at greater than first class. I'm thinking of attaching a brick to the postage paid envelope to maximize the weight.

I can't believe nobody suggested "junk mail" as a heating fuel yet.

There have been people who sign up for as much junk mail as possible. The USPS delivers new fuel every day except Sunday!

That's what I used to do when I have lots of time, stimulating the economy and have them help out the USPS has never felt so good.

Don't forget that you should not send them their own junk back. Send them another lot in their own envelope.

When I lived in England I used to send it to what we now call in the USA IRS and in England they don't know where it's from.

LOL I got to say I haven't really thought of that. My mom gets tons of junk mail everyday. I might try that.

I registered at the DMA.COM website to have my name removed from all types of junk mail. Guess what, 3 weeks later I'm getting INUNDATED with junk mail!!!!!! What the heck!! This is one shady-a** company!!

Before registering, I got junk mail mainly from companies I had a business relationship with, and a few other companies. Now I'm getting all sorts of junk like funiture ads, grocery store fliers, sporting goods sales, misc coupons, etc etc. I didn't get this sort of stuff for years, and for it to suddenly show up 3 weeks after registering on DMA, that's totally suspicious!! My mailbox was literally stuffed solid yesterday

do not register on their site!
