I just heard an interview done with Steve by KBAY radio, where they discuss his leaving Journey, and his leaving music in general, and they ask him "why now?" and he ends up talking about why he came back to music. It's really incredibly touching, and has to do with him falling in love with a woman named Kellie Nash, who he saw on a documentary about fighting breast cancer, and ended up falling in love with. He was with her from that point on, and apparently had a very deep relationship. A few years later, apparently, the cancer came back with a vengeance and took her. As he explains it, before she died, she made him promise that after she died, he would not "go back into isolation". So he promised, and now coming back to music was a result of his promise. Knowing this, I can definitely tell he put a ton of the emotion he felt for her into his new music.
